Job Title:                     Education Manager

Location:                     Renewi UK Services Ltd, South Kirkby, Pontefract

Salary:                         £27-30k dependent on experience

Hours/Contract:           37.5 hours per week, exclusive of lunch breaks, usually worked between the hours of 08.00 – 16.00 or to                                       accommodate out of hours events.

Renewi work in partnership with Wakefield Council to manage all of Wakefield’s Municipal waste, which includes , garden waste and recycling. The contract also requires Renewi to provide a dedicated waste education service for schools and the community, delivered from a purpose built education and visitor centre. An outreach programme is also provided. As the Education Manager  you will lead the Education Service working closely with the Councils team. The Education Service delivers in excess of 75 events each year aimed at reducing waste and raising awareness on many themes including contamination.  A key focus of the role is to change waste and recycling behaviours, as well as supporting waste minimisation.

Key Purpose of the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an energetic, engaging and motivated Education Manager to lead and develop the education service on behalf of Wakefield Council across the district.

Renewi and Wakefield Council work together to deliver educational events and activities to schools, community groups, Brownie/Scout groups, higher education institutes or other interested groups, with the aim of increasing awareness of waste minimisation and recycling. This includes understanding what happens to our waste, why it’s important to reduce, reuse and recycle and how we can take action.

Leading a small team, your role will be to organise and deliver these events and activities. You will visit schools, community events and organisations across Wakefield District to deliver engaging assemblies, activities and talks to inspire people to value our natural resources and take action in minimising their environmental impact.

We are looking for someone with a positive approach, passion and confidence in working with the general public, plus a personal commitment to sustainability.

The successful applicant will be a qualified education professional with at least three years’ experience of working with children and young people. Knowledge and experience of the environment and waste would be an advantage, however this is not essential.

Volunteer Marketing Assistant 

 

 

About the opportunity

Providing marketing support to help the Education Programme to increase reach and engagement. You may want to support and develop a new marketing strategy over a short term basis or perhaps provide longer term support for our programme. We ask for a minimum three month commitment for this role.

Renewi is one of the largest providers of local authority waste services in the UK. Renewi work in partnership with Wakefield Council to manage the district's waste and have built a state of the art new waste treatment facility which helps to reduce landfill, recycle more and create sustainable energy.

As part of the contract between Renewi and Wakefield Council we run a waste education programme which aims to educate the local community about the importance of recycling and caring for the environment. We have a purpose built education centre in South Kirkby where we deliver educational events for schools and communities and also go out to visit local groups to deliver interactive workshops and talks. Last year we delivered 144 events across the Wakefield area and worked with over 4500 people. The scope of the programme is broad, we work with adult groups, primary schools, secondary schools, scouts, guides, groups with learning disabilities and anyone who may value from our work. We also run a number of specific campaigns throughout the year which are targeted around specific issues.  

What we're looking for

A volunteer interested in gaining experience in supporting an Environmental Outreach programme.

> An interest in marketing is essential but specific qualifications are not

> You need to have good interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.

> Creative flair

> An eye for detail

> Good IT skills (MS Office)

Training and ongoing support will be given. A DBS check will be required.

Practical Considerations

You will have an enthusiasm for environmental education and a desire to market our services.

You can volunteer during normal working hours which typically range from 8am-5pm Monday-Friday but occasional weekend and evening work is sometimes required.

You can help out over a short term or long term basis for as long or as little as you want. Although we do have some minimum requirements. We would like someone who can commit to a minimum of two hours per week over a period of at least 3 months. Contact us for further information and to discuss your options.

Volunteer Education Assistant

Create one off recycled art projects and installations which will be displayed in our visitor centre. Improve our classroom and outdoor areas artistic appeal. This role is particularly suitable for people looking for one off and short term volunteering.

Reuse Campaign Project Officer 

About the opportunity

Support a specific campaign. This term we will be focusing on our Reuse campaign and you will be supporting our Monster Competition which is a competition for local primary schools to get involved in. Primary Schools have been challenged to make monsters out of rubbish and these will be voted on by the general public at a prominent public location this February.
