Commercial Vehicle Permits

New electronic permit system launches at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)

Owners of commercial type vehicles can now apply for their permit online at www.shankswakefieldepermits.co.uk. The old paper ticket style system is being phased out from 4 April.

If you currently hold a valid permit to access the HWRCs you do not need to apply for replacements, your current permits will still be valid and accepted across the Recycling Centres until they expire.

How to obtain a commercial vehicle permit

If you own any of the following vehicles:

  • van
  • sports utility vehicle
  • small pickup
  • mini bus
  • 7+ seater
  • or using a trailer above 6ft x 4ft

you will need to get a commercial vehicle permit before you are able to dispose of any household waste at our HWRCs.

Any of the above vehicles pulling any sized trailer will need to obtain a commercial vehicle permit.

These permits entitle you to 12 visits per year, free of charge. All visits will be logged electronically and you no longer need to present a permit each time you visit. The only waste accepted at the Recycling Centres is waste taken from your household, we cannot accept business or trade waste using these permits.

You can now apply for your permits on line at www.shankswakefieldepermits.co.uk

You will need to upload copies of the following documents to the website:

  • Vehicle registration details
  • Proof of residency of the district (e.g. recent utility or Council tax bill)

If you do not have online access, commercial vehicle permits can still be issued at the Wakefield HWRC on Denby Dale Road by taking along the full log book for the vehicle and a Council Tax bill or recent utility bill as proof of Wakefield residency.

Company vans and pickups
